The Distance Measurement Equipment (DME)

Bendix King COM/NAV Cessna 172

The DME is radio navigation device that measures distances to stations transmitting VHF or UHF signals, like VORs (Very high frequency Omnidirectional Radio range station) for example.

Some type of DME-Device also features a ground-speed (GS) indication and a calculation algorithm to determine how long it takes to reach the selected station with the actual groundspeed.

Therefore, the Sim-Modules DME has three displays for distance, ground-speed and time. Three individial sources can be selected: NAV1, NAV2 or GPS. This makes it also possible to determine the distance to the next waypoint in the GPS-flightplan.
